The Cyprus Association for Psychotherapists expresses its clear and categorical opposition to any form of derogatory, offensive or derogatory speech directed against people with disabilities.
Such statements are not only inappropriate; they reproduce social discrimination that substantially affects the mental health, self-image and position of people with disabilities in society.
Public debate needs to shift from personalizing the issue to a substantive reflection on the perceptions and practices that maintain stigmatization and social exclusion.
Disability is not a personal deficit, but also arises from the obstacles of an inaccessible social environment.
Respect, the use of inclusive language and the deconstruction of stereotypes are basic prerequisites for a society of equality and mental well-being for all.
The Pancyprian Association for Psychotherapists will continue to intervene publicly, defending human rights and promoting a discourse that empowers, rather than excludes.
