PAP’s membership and appointment as NAO/NUO is a significant factor referring to the development of Psychotherapy and the achievement of a legislation regulating the profession.

European Certificate of Psychotherapy (ECP )

In order to have a European-wide standard for psychotherapy education and training in accordance with these high professional standards and criteria, the EAP has established the award of a European Certificate of Psychotherapy (ECP). Currently, PAP has within its members, 41 psychotherapists who are ECP holders.

The establishment of the ECP indicates the future of Psychotherapy in Europe. It aims to ensure the standardization of the profession of Psychotherapy throughout Europe and is being advanced by the EAP to become the official

certificate for the professional psychotherapist in the European Union to establish a comprehensive Europe-wide standard for the profession of Psychotherapy.  It ensures equal standards of education and training across Europe.

Information on ECP Application and Awards

The award of ECP is possible through the Grandparenting Route or the Direct Route. Both possibilities require the applicant’s registration at the county's NAO as a prerequisite. For Cyprus the NAO, is the Pancyprian Association for Psychotherapists.

The Direct Route can be chosen if the applicant has finished his/her training at an EAPTI and the application procedure is under the responsibility of this particular Institute.

The Grandparenting Route can be chosen if the applicant has finished training at an Institute that is not EAPTI and/or the curriculum does not meet the 4-year requirement and has a working experience of at least three years before his/her application. This application needs the supervision and recommendation of the country's NAO.
