PAP official National Umbrella Organisation for Psychotherapists in Cyprus

After an overwhelming majority vote by the EAP board members at the Board Meetings of The European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP) on the 20th and 21st of February 2015 at The Sigmund Freud University, Vienna, Austria, The Pancyprian Association for Psychotherapists (PAP) was voted the single and biggest professional organisation in Cyprus, for psychotherapists from all recognised scientific modalities in psychotherapy, with a constitution and code of ethics consistent with those of the EAP is now the EAPs official National Umbrella Organisation (NUO) for Psychotherapists in Cyprus.

The European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP)

The EAP was founded in 1990 based on the ‘Strasbourg Declaration on Psychotherapy’, representing today 128 psychotherapy organisations from 41 European countries and by that more than 120,000 psychotherapists in Europe. It is a founding member of the World Council for Psychotherapy, a UN organisation, and is an advisor to the European Committee on matters of psychotherapy.

The EAP sets high standards for the training and practice of psychotherapy and awards the European Certificate for Psychotherapy (ECP) to applicants who can demonstrate that they fulfil these criteria. There are presently 9 holders of the ECP in Cyprus, 7 of which are professional and founding members of PAP.

The Pancyprian Association for Psychotherapists is now one of the 31 National Umbrella Organisations in Europe representing the EAP on National and European issues on Psychotherapy in 31 different European countries.

This places psychotherapy in Cyprus firmly on the map of psychotherapy in Europe.
