The PanCyprian Association for Psychotherapists (PAP) is the first scientific, non-profit, ‘umbrella organisation’ for ALL psychotherapists in Cyprus, founded on the principles of the ‘Strasbourg Declaration on Psychotherapy (1990)’.

PAP has been officially appointed as the National Umbrella Organisation (NUO) for Psychotherapists in Cyprus by the European Association for Psychotherapists (EAP), which awards the successful applicants the European Certificate for Psychotherapy (ECP) There are presently thirteen psychotherapists in Cyprus who have been awarded the ECP, seven of which are founding members of PAP. A substantial number of PAP members hold equivalent qualifications.

PAP has been accredited and officially appointed by the EAP as its National Awarding Organisation (NAO) for psychotherapists in Cyprus. Its official appointment as one of the 33 National Awarding Organisations (NAOs) of the EAP in Europe and as representative of the EAP in Cyprus is of historical significance for psychotherapy in Cyprus placing it officially on the European map of psychotherapy.

The ethical commitments underpinning the creation of PAP are the democratic representation of all psychotherapists in Cyprus and that of ‘working together’ with all other mental health professionals for the protection of the welfare of the public and the profession of psychotherapy. PAP’s ongoing commitment is:

  • To correctly inform the public on matters of psychotherapy
  • To provide for its members a facilitating and professional environment, consistent with international standards of training and practice, in which they can Continue their Professional Development (CPD).
